Don’t let your equity investment strategy be based on looking for ‘winners’ – it is the failure of many a fund manager. Avoid losers. It is more risk averse to have a diversified portfolio of interesting businesses in high-growth industries or that have found a profitable seam in an already large market. The large tech investors tend to have investments in a wide range of new and existing companies with the expectation that many will not make it but the ones that do will more than make up for the laggards.
